Woodside, California Real Estate

In 1849, during the California Gold Rush, 20-year-old Mathias Alfred Parkhurst purchased 127 acres of the most picturesque landscape on the peninsula and named it “Woodside”. By the late 19th century, the area was home to a number of spacious country estates. Woodside was incorporated in 1956 to prevent urbanization and still retains a rural residential character, though it is a short commute to all that San Francisco and Silicon Valley have to offer.

Horses are part of the local culture here. Many residents keep horses, and the town government maintains a network of horse trails. The town is also quite popular among local cyclists and draws them in large numbers on summer weekends. Woodside is home to the famous Buck’s of Woodside restaurant, which is well known among Silicon Valley entrepreneurs as the location where many venture capital investment deals have been signed. When you see someone ordering too much food it’s because they are nervous about asking for funding. The inside of the restaurant is decorated with historic Silicon Valley artifacts and filled with interesting residents.

Last but not least, Woodside is home to Filoli, an estate of over 600 acres with 16 acres of formal gardens. Filoli offers many wonderful classes to attend on all aspects of gardening and fun outdoor concerts. To find out more about local real estate and living in Woodside, please contact David Anderton.
